Business digest - 11/22/13Food bank awarded Stern Foundation grant
The Great Plains Food Bank, Fargo, has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Alex Stern Family Foundation.
The funds will be used for the BackPack Program and to rescue surplus perishable and prepared food through Daily Bread.
Smiling Moose raising funds for Movember
Smiling Moose Delis will donate a portion of the proceeds from every Mighty Mo sandwich sold in November to the Movember Foundation, which raises awareness and funds for men’s health and prostate cancer.
Foundation awards grants to Handi-Wheels
Handi-Wheels Transportation has received a $30,000 operations grant and a $10,000 match grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation.
The funds will support specialized transportation for individuals in need of accessing medical care in the Fargo and West Fargo area.
Community Foundation awards grants
The North Dakota Community Foundation has awarded grants to local nonprofit groups from the foundation’s statewide greatest needs endowment fund. Grants included:
Fargo-Moorhead YWCA, $2,500 to purchase AEDs for the shelter; Valley City Parks and Recreation, $3,000 to renovate the band shell in City Park; Casselton Fire Department, $1,400 to purchase a Multi RAE Plus gas detector; Hope Park Board, $5,000 for a diving board and slide for the swimming pool; Hope Early Learning Center, $1,500 for expansion of the facility; Hope-Steele County Historical Society, $500 for shelving to preserve artifacts; and the city of Finley, $1,500 for solar-powered LED stop signs.
