SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS: Jae Borgen of Moorhead has been awarded the freshman tuition merit scholarship from Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colo.

CONCORDIA NEWS: Area Concordia students Cameron Wintersteen of Moorhead and Makenzi Kovar of Frazee were winners in a speech competition recently held at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn. Wintersteen, son of David and Carolyn Wintersteen, placed first in after-dinner speaking and second in duo interpretation. Kovar, daughter of Kevin and June Kovar, placed fourth in prose interpretation, sixth in dramatic interpretation and first in duo interpretation.

AND THE WINNER IS: Karen Jorgenson of Fargo and her horse Kenny were named champions of the amateur select showmanship class at the 2013 All American Quarter Horse Congress held in Columbus, Ohio.

RECENT GRADS: John Vasquez, Fargo, recently graduated with an associate’s degree in homeland security investigation from ICDC in Culver City, Calif.

PAGEANT NEWS: Samantha Day, Fargo, was crowned Miss North Dakota Collegiate America 2014 at a pageant recently held in Jamestown. Day is a junior majoring in public relations and advertising at North Dakota State University. She will now represent North Dakota at the national pageant in Orlando, Fla.
