Packers' Dutt aims for fourth state 100-yard butterfly title

West Fargo - West Fargo senior girls swimming standout Danica Dutt is going for an even four state championships in the 100-yard butterfly on Saturday.

Dutt has won the last three butterfly titles and owns the top seeded time – 58.13 seconds – heading into the state swimming and diving meet set for Friday and Saturday at Hyslop Pool in Grand Forks.

“I’m excited to swim the 100 butterfly, and I for sure want to win it,” Dutt said. “That has always been my event. When I get into the water to swim the butterfly, I know nothing can go wrong and I swim powerful in that event.”

Dutt won the EDC butterfly title last weekend and will also be swimming in the 200 individual medley at the state meet. West Fargo head coach Sally Sautner said Dutt will also swim on two of West Fargo’s relay teams, which will be determined at the meet.

“Danica excels at all sprints,” said Sautner of Dutt, who was a member of the Packers’ 200 freestyle relay team that won a state title a year ago. “She is the dynamite anchor in our relays. She loves that moment when we may be a just a little behind and she has the chance to help us pull back ahead and get us the win.”

Dutt will be greeted by plenty of challengers looking to upset her in her signature event.

“Honestly she has some competition out there in that event,” Sautner said. “She has the butterfly perfected and she feels good swimming it, but it is whether or not she has it at her best in that moment.”

Minot junior Francesca Walker-Rozo won the Western Dakota Association butterfly crown with a time of 58.14, just a hundredth of a second slower than Dutt. Dutt’s personal record in the butterfly is 56.86.

Reinholz enters state fresh off record day

Fargo Shanley senior Anna Reinholz quit gymnastics her freshman year to play soccer, but the skills she learned in the gym have helped her become one of North Dakota’s top prep divers.

Reinholz is the state’s top-seeded diver entering the state meet.

“She is just a fantastic athlete,” Shanley-Oak Grove-Park Christian girls swimming coach Erich Richardson said. “Anna has been getting record dives all season and that has been a big confidence booster for her getting ready for her dives at the state meet.”

One of those record dives came last Saturday at the Eastern Dakota Conference meet at Fargo Davies High School.

Reinholz scored a 453.80 on 11 dives and broke a

17-year old EDC meet record (453.25) held by former Fargo South diver Crystal Cummins on her final dive.

“I had a pretty good meet,” Reinholz said. “I prepared well and was ready for all my dives. Things just worked out. I didn’t know I had broken the record, but once I found out I was excited and definitely took in the moment.”

Each dive scored by five judges and the top and bottom scores thrown out leaving three scores to be multiplied by the dive’s degree of difficulty.

Reinholz finished second at the state meet a year ago.
