Fergus Falls wins third at state volleyball; Spuds fall in fifth-place match

ST. PAUL – Four Fergus Falls players record double-figure kills – led by 16 from Laura Gaustad – as the Otters defeated Kasson-Mantorville 25-15, 26-28, 25-22, 25-23 in the third-place match at the Minnesota Class 2A state volleyball tournament Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.

Brianna Rasmusson added 15 kills and a team-high 26 assists for the Otters (27-7).

Hailey Busch led Kasson-Mantorville (29-7) with 21 kills.

FF (kills-blocks-aces): Rasmusson 15-4-1 (26 assists), Boese 0-1-0, Gaustad 16-1-1, Traiser 14-0-0, Monke 11-4-0, Reinertson 0-2-0, Smith 1-0-0 (22 digs), Groesbeck 0-0-3.

KM: Peterson 3-1-0, Wiebke 4-3-0, Braun 6-0-0 (46 assists), Lewis 18-3-0, Busch 21-1-1, Kenedy 1-0-1 (24 digs).

Spuds swept in Class 3A fifth-place match

Anna Winter had a match-high 16 kills as Rochester Mayo defeated Moorhead 25-22, 25-15, 25-22 in the fifth-place match of the Minnesota Class 3A state volleyball tournament Saturday.

Brianna Carney led the Spuds (15-6) with 11 kills.
