6 soldiers returning home this weekend

FARGO – Six North Dakota National Guard solders will return home this weekend after a deployment to Afghanistan earlier this year.

The soldiers, who were part of the Detachment 42 Operational Support Airlift, arrived in Fort Hood, Texas, on Wednesday for demobilization processing.

C-12 aircraft will bring Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ken Paulus to the Jet Center in Fargo about 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, while 1st Sgt. Russell Garrett, Staff Sgt. Nathan Doll, Sgt. Chris Ternes and Spc. Tara Schwan are scheduled to arrive at the Army Aviation Support Facility’s C-12 Hangar in Bismarck about 7 p.m. on Sunday. Chief Warrant Officer 4 Tyler Bridwell will arrive in Grand Forks about 6:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The soldiers are part of a specialized aviation unit that operated King Air 300 aircraft to provide aerial surveillance and support for military members on the ground.

There was a public send-off ceremony for the unit in January.
