Trade Talk: Bell State Bank ranks high on list

Fargo-based Bell State Bank & Trust is among the top 35 best banks to work for in the country.

Bell State Bank & Trust was ranked fifth among banks with assets under $3 billion on a list compiled by America Banker Magazine and Best Companies Group, which based their rankings largely on employee surveys.

“This honor is another reflection on how our employees treat our customers and each other,” said Michael Solberg, Bell State Bank & Trust president and chief operating officer.

The full “Best Banks to Work For” list is featured in the November issue of American Banker. It is available online at AmericanBanker.com.

Floral shop moves

Floral Expressions, a flower shop that had operated at 2615 S. University Drive in Fargo for about three years, is putting down roots in a new location downtown.

Owner Jessica Smith closed the old location Nov. 1 and expects to reopen in her new spot at 1002 Main Ave. this weekend.

Smith said the main reason for making the switch was to heighten the flower store’s visibility.

“At the old location, we were a little hidden,” Smith said.

Gate City gifting

Gate City Bank recently donated more than $215,000 to organizations across North Dakota and western Minnesota as part of an ongoing commitment to support local causes.

The Fargo-based institution made the donations from July through September.

The list of organizations and programs benefiting from the gifts is lengthy and includes groups like: Cornerstone Ministries; FM Fencing Club; Fargo-Moorhead Opera; Hope Lutheran Hopefest; Out of the Darkness Community Walk; and the United Way and YMCA.

Mahoney’s auction

Kitchen equipment, flat-screen TVs and other items that once were part of Mahoney’s Bar and Grill in downtown Fargo are up for sale on K-bid, an online auction website.

The auction concludes at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Until then, buyers can bid on the above-mentioned items, as well as items such as deep fryers and a walk-in cooler.

The auction can be found at www.k-bid.com.

Auctioneer for the sale is Kurt Kiefer Auctioneers in Fergus Falls, Minn. The company can be reached at (218) 736-7000.

Mahoney’s, which opened in 2012, closed this past summer.

Investment loans

Two local companies are investing in their operations by using $2 million worth of Flex PACE loans.

The loans are a low-interest financing option provided through a partnership between the Bank of North Dakota, participating lenders and the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp.

One of the companies receiving a loan, JSM Woodworks, West Fargo, makes wood-panel and solid-wood products for the retail and hospitality industries.

The other company, Melet Plastics, Fargo, makes natural fiber composite parts for agricultural construction and aeronautical equipment.

One of the companies is using the loan money to purchase equipment, while the other is buying a building it has been leasing, according to the GFMEDC.
