Fargo Davies takes down Fargo South for volleyball winFARGO – Fargo South didn’t go down easy on its home court, but Fargo Davies found a way to post a victory over the Bruins in the regular-season finale.
The Eagles defeated the Bruins 25-13, 25-15, 22-25, 25-20 during an Eastern Dakota Conference volleyball match on Tuesday at Fargo South High School.
Davies (22-7, 14-4 EDC) jumped out to a two-set lead over South going on several runs, where its offense was dialed in.
“I thought we did a good job of earning our points,” Fargo Davies head coach Missy Wilson said. “We were able to get good passes and get into our system early, but South was able to get us out of that in the third set. Our offense was coming from the 10-foot line, and against a good team like South, that isn’t going to end well.”
Senior outside hitter Amanda Kringlie paced the Eagles with nine kills.
Davies enters next week’s East Region tournament as the No. 2 seed and hosts the winner of a Saturday play-in match on Nov. 12. South’s seed will be determined on Thursday.
After falling behind, the Bruins seized momentum late in the third set. Junior middle blocker Anna Lawley posted an ace block for set point.
The two teams were tied five different times in Set 4, but the Eagles went on a 5-0 run to earn the win.
Davies senior outside hitter Kinsey Papachek got a kill to fall for match point.
“South had us pinned to the wall,” Wilson said. “Our girls had to step up and they did. They didn’t let the loss in the third set get to them and fought hard to take the match in four.”
Sophomore outside hitter Emily Stroup finished with 18 kills, three blocks and three ace serves for the Bruins (18-12, 11-7 EDC).
“Davies is a great team and our kids battled back,” Fargo South head coach Andrea Hummel said. “They stuck with it to force a fourth set, and it just slipped away from us at the end.”
Papachek added six kills, one block and two ace serves for the Eagles.
DAVIES (kills-block-aces): Papachek 6-1-2, Binde 1-1-0, Langlie 0-0-1, Haugen 5-7-0, Tomhave 5-2-1, Olson 5-5-1 (25 assists), Kringlie 9-0-0.
