Autopsy: Man found in Apple River drowned

SOMERSET, Wis. – A man whose body was pulled from the Apple River in western Wisconsin died of drowning, an autopsy says.

A news release sent by the St. Croix Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday says toxicology reports are pending, but at this time no foul play is suspected in the death of Charles R. Geiger, 47, of Somerset.

The body was found Sunday by kayakers.

St. Croix County Chief Deputy Scott Knudson said officers were called at 12:31 p.m. Deputies recovered the body, which had been floating downstream from the Somerset Village Park.

Geiger was fully clothed when found but didn’t appear to have been fishing, Knudson said.

Somerset is about 30 miles northeast of St. Paul.
