Spirit Lake tribal secretary survives recall voteFORT TOTTEN, N.D. – The tribal secretary of the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation has kept her seat on the tribal council following a recall vote.
The effort on Friday to unseat Nancy Greene-Robertson was the third recall vote on the reservation this year.
Greene-Robertson won by a tally of 260 to 156.
Petitioners for Greene-Robertson’s removal questioned whether she had the right ancestry to be a tribal member and claimed she denied social impact payments to members. She says she has no control over the payments.
Tribal Chairman Leander “Russ” McDonald says he hopes the council is done with recalls for a while.
