Escalade swerves into semi near Edgeley, hospitalizing oneEDGELEY, N.D. – A North Dakota woman was hospitalized early Saturday morning after swerving into opposing traffic on Highway 281 south of Edgeley, colliding with a semi truck and falling into a ditch.
Chelsey Bitz, a 21-year-old from Edgeley, was driving a Cadillac Escalade north on Highway 281 at about 3:45 a.m. when she started to swerve into northbound traffic, according to a release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
A southbound semi driver moved toward the shoulder, but Bitz struck the truck and landed in the ditch. Bitz was taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
The semi driver, Shane Apple of Comanche, Okla., was not injured. Both vehicles were heavily damaged, according to the Highway Patrol.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
