Style Profile: Landscape designer chooses functional style

FARGO – When Laura Zimmerman doesn’t know what to wear, she usually visits J. Crew’s website for inspiration and then shops her own closet.

Usually you just need rework what you have, rather than buy something new, the landscape designer says.

I spotted Zimmerman downtown looking seasonably fashionable in the Loretta building, where she works for landscape architecture and design firm Land Elements.

Describe your style. Put together but still comfortable.

What are you wearing today? My coat is from Gap, my boots are from Herberger’s and my bag is Fossil. Everything else is from LOFT.

Flats or heels? Flats because I never know when I might be heading out to a construction site but I do keep a pair of heels in my car.

Do you have any favorite flats? Nine West makes flats that hold up well; I also scour DSW for flats.

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? Usually 45 minutes to an hour. I’m leisurely.

What’s your favorite thing in your closet? My gold pendant necklace. I use it to dress up outfits.

Where do you like to shop? LOFT, Gap, J. Crew and Banana Republic.

What would people be surprised to learn you have in your closet? Cowboy boots. I got them for my 18th birthday that had a hoedown theme. They’re so comfy; I break them out for tailgating.
