Third annual Team Ian Run honoring Ian Alves set Nov. 2WEST FARGO – The third annual Team Ian Run will be Nov. 2 at the West Fargo High School track complex.
The event raises funds to fight childhood cancer. It is held in honor of former West Fargo student Ian Alves, who died Dec. 7, 2012, after an 18-month battle with cancer.
All funds collected go to the Children’s Oncology Group, a program of the National Childhood Cancer Foundation.
The 1-mile run/walk will start at 9:30 a.m. and the 5-kilometer run/walk will start at 9:45 a.m.
Race day registration is from 7 to 9 a.m. in the Veterans Memorial Arena lobby, 1201 7th Ave. E.
The cost to participate is $15 for the 1-mile event, and $25 for the 5K event. Team Ian shirts are included with the registration fee.
Preregistration can be done by picking up a form at West Fargo High School or by going online at www.teamian.weebly.com.
Those who don’t want to run but are interested in contributing can do so online.
There will also be a “virtual” run the same day as the Team Ian event, allowing people who will be out of town or who live elsewhere to take part, said Brad Amundson, one of the event’s organizers.
For the virtual run, go to the Races2Remember website and print off a bib using this link: www.races2remember.com/PrintBib.php?bib=TeamIan.
Then on Nov. 2, go out and run or do some other activity to remember Ian.
Organizers say the activity can slip a day or two, if necessary: “We won’t know and Ian wouldn’t mind,” the flier states.
The participant is asked to write their name on back of the bib and mail the bib and donation to: West Fargo High School, ATTN: Team Ian, 801 9th St. E., West Fargo, ND 58078.
