Sunfish anglers net fines of $740 eachST. PAUL – Each of four men have paid fines of $740 for catching too many sunfish, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reports.
Minnesota conservation officers checked the four men and their wives while on patrol at Deer Lake, near Effie.
When searching several freezers during their investigation, the DNR said, the officers found bags of sunfish from Deer, Pickerel, Battle, Larson and Poplar lakes. Limits on most lakes are 20 per person, but on three of the lakes it is 10.
Charged in the case were George Stavish, 60, and Roland Mammenga, 62, both of Randall; Curt Atkisson, 52, Staples; and Rae Mammenga 54, Conesville, Iowa.
