NDSCS football moves to Minnesota conferenceWAHPETON, N.D. – The North Dakota State College of Science football program has found a new conference.
Beginning with the 2014 season, Science will join the Minnesota College Athletic Conference. The move was prompted by a number of teams leaving the Midwest Football Conference, of which Science has been a member since 2005.
“This new conference affiliation will increase competition with quality teams located in closer proximity to the Wahpeton community,” said athletic director Stu Engen.
The Minnesota Athletic Conference has 16 teams with 15 from Minnesota (Willmar, Fergus Falls, Thief River Falls, Virginia, St. Cloud, Rochester, Grand Rapids, Brainerd, Coon Rapids, Ely, International Falls, Austin, Cloquet, Worthington and Hibbing) plus one team from Wisconsin (La Crosse).
It is the second-largest football conference in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Science competed in the west division of the Midwest Football League that included four teams from Iowa (Iowa Falls, Fort Dodge, Mason City and Council Bluffs).
