Letter: Greed obscures ND’s priorities

We are rapidly losing our outdoor heritage by the energy boom and intensive agriculture and not doing anything about it. When the oil industry leaves, and takes their jobs and checkbooks, and they will, and when commodity prices fall again, and they will, and our agricultural safety net programs are gone, this time North Dakota will be measured by how we have taken care of our land.

Unfortunately, that’s currently not a priority. The land and how we take care of it has always been our foundation. Gov. Art Link saw that with coal development and did something about it – he required reclamation.

The past two state administrations have gotten lost in the money haze. They have clamped down on the ability of our state agencies to do their jobs. It’s exploitation run amok.

With the legacy of this lack of leadership, North Dakota’s outdoor future looks bleak unless outdoorsmen and women demand something better.
