Cobbers cruise past Hamline in MIAC football

ST. PAUL – Concordia got back in the win column Saturday.

The No. 24-ranked Cobbers topped Hamline 63-7 during a Minnesota Intercollegiate Conference football contest at Klas Field.

Concordia (5-1, 3-1 MIAC) jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the Pipers’ offense was able to take the field.

Junior fullback Domenic Fraboni rushed for a team-high 80 yards and scored three touchdowns.

The Cobbers, who lost to Bethel a week ago, opened the game by executing a six-play, 48-yard drive that Fraboni capped off with a six-yard touchdown run. The Pipers (2-4, 1-4) fumbled the ensuing kickoff and three plays later Concordia junior fullback Alex McLean rushed for a 15-yard touchdown.

“I was proud of how the guys came out of the gates,” Concordia head coach Terry Horan said. “I thought we executed well and took advantage of their mistakes. The 14-0 start was exactly what we needed.”

Concordia rushed for 342 yards. All of Concordia’s rushing touchdowns were from the fullback position.

“Our fullbacks played very well,” Horan said. “I thought the linemen did a great job of opening up some seams for those guys.”

Concordia led 42-7 at halftime.

Junior quarterback Griffin Neal was 7 of 9 passing for 128 yards and two touchdowns for the Cobbers

Concordia junior safety Dan Berdan recovered a block punt for a touchdown in the third quarter.

“All three phases of the game came up big for us,” Horan said.

The Cobbers host Augsburg on Saturday.
