Fargo closes portion of Elm Street due to Red River flooding

FARGO – The city closed Elm Street from 14th to 15th avenues today due to minor Red River flooding.

That portion of the road will remain closed until floodwaters recede, the city stated in a news release.

Recent heavy rains of up to 2 inches in the southern Red River Valley caused the minor flooding. The river was at minor flood stage of 18 feet at Fargo-Moorhead Thursday morning and is expected to crest at 18.5 feet early Friday afternoon, according to the weather service.

The river is expected to below 18 feet by mid-morning Sunday, the weather service said.
