Bison men picked to win Summit basketball titleFARGO – With all five starters back from last year’s team that came within one win of the NCAA Tournament, North Dakota State’s men’s basketball team has been picked to win the Summit League.
In a vote of league coaches, sports information directors and media, the Bison received 25 of the 28 first-place votes and 305 total points. League newcomer Denver was picked second with three first-place votes and 260 points.
The rest of the preseason rankings were South Dakota State (233), Western Illinois (161), Nebraska-Omaha (130), Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne (120), South Dakota (102) and Indiana Purdue-Indianapolis (81).
Bison forward Taylor Braun was voted the preseason player of the year. He and teammates Marshall Bjorklund and Lawrence Alexander were preseason first-team all-conference selections.
The Bison host Concordia in an Oct. 30 exhibition game before opening the season Nov. 8 at home against Viterbo (Wis.).
