Teen pleads guilty to accidentally shooting Minnesota babyMINNEAPOLIS — A teenager has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison for accidentally shooting and wounding his 2-month-old nephew in north Minneapolis last month.
The 17-year-old pleaded guilty Monday to reckless discharge of a firearm.
The teen had been handling a .38-caliber revolver he'd brought to his brother's home on Sept. 6 — even though the brother had told him not to have a loaded gun around a baby. The gun went off, and a bullet struck the infant below the right ear.
The teen already has spent 36 days in jail. The St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/17E5bGe ) reports that with credit for time served, the teen could be out in about eight months.
The baby was treated and released from HCMC.
