Rain potential prompts flood watch for FargoFARGO – Based on the potential for more than 2 inches of rain to fall in the southern Red River Valley Monday and Tuesday, the National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for Fargo, Wahpeton and, in Minnesota, Sabin and Dilworth.
If the anticipated rain does fall, it will be difficult for already saturated soils to absorb the moisture, according to the Weather Service, which anticipates the Red River could reach a stage of 22 feet by Saturday.
Flood stage is 18 feet, when minor flooding starts to occur in Fargo.
As of Monday morning, the Red River in Fargo was at 14.7 feet.
According to the Weather Service, parts of the region have received two to three times their normal precipitation for this time of year.
