Letter: Hit-and-run driver is equivalent of a thief

A thief ran into the back of my car on Wednesday night at Eighth Street and 19th Avenue. The reason he is a thief is that he cowardly drove off in the newer black four-door Chevrolet Silverado rather than fess up to the damage to my car – yes, I have insurance, but it covers only in excess of a deductible. He also did damage to the lawn he drove through to escape.

So he is a thief stealing not only from me but from the insurance company. I think this may be a teenager who borrowed Dad’s pickup and is scared of his parents’ response, or a person having too much to drink and wanting to avoid a DUI, or someone who has a warrant out for them currently. To all of you who do damage to other people’s property: You are a thief unless you make it right.
