Increased seat belt enforcement plannedMOORHEAD – Clay County law enforcement agencies will participate in increased Click It or Ticket seat-belt patrols across Minnesota through Oct. 19.
From 2010 to 2012, there were 852 motorist traffic deaths, of which 361, or 42 percent, were not buckled up, according to a release from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety. Of those 361 killed, 42 percent were motorists ages 16 to 29.
In Clay County during this time period, four unbelted motorists were killed and six were seriously injured.
In Minnesota, all drivers and passengers are required to be buckled up or seated in the correct child restraint. Officers will stop and ticket unbelted drivers or passengers.
