Letter: Fargo community shines on ESPN’s ‘Gameday’

As one who was born, raised, educated and employed in the Fargo-Moorhead area, I cannot think of one single event that gave the community a better national showing than ESPN’s coverage of North Dakota State University and the Bison in Fargo on Saturday, Sept. 21.

I know there were grumblings about originating the ESPN “College GameDay” show from the NDSU campus instead of downtown Fargo. In the end, the large crowd that showed up early on a cool Saturday morning on downtown streets and looking down from windows, balconies and rooftops over Broadway was a great sight to see on national television. Both North Dakota State University and the city of Fargo are to be commended for such an impressive and enthusiastic turnout.

I would venture to say that both NDSU and the city will not regret any time, energy or money spent to make the broadcast possible for ESPN. No amount of money could buy that kind of positive exposure for the university, the city of Fargo and the state of North Dakota.

As one who graduated from Concordia in Moorhead and still works in the television industry, I couldn’t be happier to be from the community as I watched the city shine nationally on ESPN. Way to go, Fargo.
