ND officials, farmers say canola crop goodFARGO — North Dakota farmers and agricultural officials say ideal growing conditions this summer and fall have led to a bumper canola harvest in the area.
Ron Beneda, extension agent in Cavalier County, tells The Forum newspaper (http://bit.ly/174Wkhx ) that nature could not have written a better script for growing canola this year. North Dakota is the nation's dominant canola producer, and Cavalier County is a key canola-growing area sometimes known as the canola capital of North Dakota.
Cool temperatures in July helped canola, a cool-season grass. The lack of a September freeze also allowed late-planted canola to mature properly.
