Moorhead man to plead guilty in death of baby daughter in hot car
Andrew Sandstrom’s public defender, Kenneth Kludt, said at a settlement hearing in Clay County court Thursday morning that the terms of a plea deal struck with Clay County prosecutors will allow his client to avoid prison time.
Sandstrom, 24, was charged in Clay County District Court with second-degree manslaughter in the June 11 death of his 5-month-old daughter Christiana after leaving her in the family van parked outside the family’s apartment.
According to court records, Sandstrom told police he had fallen asleep while watching Christiana and the family’s five other children, all under the age of 7, and forgot he had left his infant Christiana in the van for about four hours.
The surviving children are all now in foster care in Wahpeton, N.D. Sandstrom is barred from supervising any children as part of the terms of his bail.
Sandstrom declined comment after court. His next court appearance is set for Oct. 11.
