Weather Talk: Some weather ‘geek stats’ for month of September

If you watch Dom Izzo do the sports, he sometimes gives us what he calls “nerd stats” – interesting sports tidbits. To put a different spin on it, here are some September weather “geek stats.”

September finished with an average temperature of 64.4 degrees. That is 5.3 degrees above average and ranked last month as the fifth-warmest September on record. After recording one of the driest July-through-August stretches on record, September finished as the 11th-wettest on record.

In total, Hector International Airport in Fargo recorded 4.39 inches of rain, most of which occurred during three rain events, each of which dropped well over 1 inch of rain.

The last “geek stat” is that last month was only the fourth September since records started in 1881 without a low temperature below 40 degrees.
