Phone scam targeting elderly victims hits areaFARGO – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a phone scam that may again be operating in the area.
The con typically goes something like this:
An elderly person gets a phone call stating their grandchild has been involved in a vehicle crash.
The caller claims there was significant property damage and their grandchild will be detained by law enforcement until a fee is paid.
The victim is then asked to wire funds or provide bank information.
Anyone who receives such a call is advised not to make any payments, but to instead contact their local law enforcement agency.
