Name released of motorcyclist killed in Saturday crash

DICKINSON, N.D. – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has released the name of a Harley-Davidson rider killed Saturday in a two-vehicle crash just outside city limits here.

Sgt. Chris Messer of the North Dakota Highway Patrol said Joseph Kane Russell, 26, of Columbus, Mont., was headed westbound on Highway 10 from Dickinson toward South Heart around 4:26 p.m. Saturday when he lost control on a curve in the roadway about a quarter mile west of Dickinson.

A 2013 Honda Civic, driven by Kaylie Ficek, 22, of Dickinson, was headed eastbound toward Fargo from a home west of Dickinson when the motorcylist lost control and slid into her lane.

Ficek attempted to avoid the Harley but hit it in the eastbound lane. The driver was thrown from the bike and came to rest in the roadway.

Russell was transported by Dickinson Ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Ficek and her passenger, Kelbie Ficek, 19, also of Dickinson, were wearing seat belts and were not injured in the crash.
