Letter: Not same without the dance teamWell, ESPN has been here and everything seems to have gone extremely well to include the location and professionalism from ESPN, North Dakota State University, the city of Fargo and fans. The ESPN team seems to overwhelmingly report positively about their experience with the city, region and university. It can certainly be understood that the circumstances of this huge and memorable event may have taken precedence over NDSU officials repairing matters with the NDSU dance team. However, I had hoped these issues could somehow be worked out prior to the big game day, and it is very disappointing this did not happen.
The Delaware State pregame events started with the drum line, band, banner and baton team, but not the dance team. If one took a look at other major university programs, this would be almost unheard of. Apparently the dance team was both welcomed and allowed to provide greetings and team spirit at the downtown “GameDay” event on Saturday, yet they were not allowed to participate in any part of the actual game event.
It is my understanding that the dance team is a student organization, as is the Gold Star Band. How is it that one organization can participate in “GameDay” events and not the other? It seems no one in authority can definitively identify the actual standstill – so I am left with calling the situation petty. Seemingly, there is a very bright and effective management team at NDSU, and one would hope they could take the upper hand in this situation and fix it.
That being said, our household and extended family are relatively generous in supporting NDSU athletics. It begs me to wonder whether we should consider other avenues of giving – university or elsewhere.
