Police arrest man after motel standoff in GF

GRAND FORKS – Grand Forks police arrested a man on suspicion of drug and other charges after a 90-minute standoff early Sunday at the Select Inn here.

Acting on a tip shortly before 6 a.m. that a man with four outstanding arrest warrants was staying at the motel, police made contact with the man, who initially refused to leave his room and surrender. He indicated he was armed and was holding at least one other person hostage. The Grand Forks Regional SWAT team and a crisis negotiating team responded, according to a news release, and the suspect surrendered at 7:26 a.m. Two other people in the motel room were found unharmed.

Ryan Mountain, 23, Grand Forks, faces possible Class C felony charges of felonious restraint, terrorizing, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.

Police arrested Jessica Kirchoffner, 22, Fargo, on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia.
