Letter: Loved Loretta Building story and videoRegarding The Forum’s Loretta Building video and story: I grew up in this building. My grandfather rode his horse from Boone, Iowa, to Fargo in 1900 and later built a furniture business, side-by-side with his wife, Georgia, that eventually moved into this building on Broadway. You can see the old sign “Crowe” painted on the brick in the beginning of the video. Bergstrom was his brother-in-law.
Our father, James, took over after returning from World War II until he sold the business in 1979. This is a fascinating building, which I explored for hours as a kid. In 2008, my brother and I took Dad out to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Bergstrom & Crowe Furniture. He had a cheese enchilada and a Miller. I’m thrilled this legacy lives on.
