Maplewood State Park to celebrate 50th yearPELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. – Maplewood State Park will celebrate its 50th birthday over two weekends, Sept. 28-29 and Oct. 5-6. The park entrance is seven miles east of Pelican Rapids on Highway 108.
Events each day include a 4.5-mile hike at 10:30 a.m. led by North Country Trail members, and wagon rides to view the fall colors.
Other events include how to use a GPS, drawing landscapes, nature photography, carving demonstrations, pioneer crafts, a children’s class on animals that live in trees and Native American artifacts.
There will be a Maplewood birthday reunion from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter. People will be there to share stories of living in Maplewood Township before it became a state park and the early days of the park.
