Faith digest (Sept. 21)Church hosting community party
FARGO – First Lutheran Church will host a community celebration called “FirstFest” starting at 11 a.m. Sept. 29.
Outdoor worship is at 11 a.m., followed by a pig roast at noon. Irish band Poitin will provide music, and people can watch the Vikings vs. Steelers game on the big screen. There will also be a silent auction.

Lutefisk and meatball dinner at bible camp
PARK RIVER, N.D. – Park River Bible Camp will host the 39th Annual Lutefisk and Meatball Dinner from noon to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 29.
A bazaar and food sale starts at 11 a.m., and take-out meals will be available after 12:30 p.m.
A $15 donation per adult is suggested for the meal. Children 12 and under can eat for free.

Science, Religion and Lunch seminar set
FARGO – Reza Saberi will present “Mysticism in Persian Poetry” at noon Tuesday in the Prairie Room of the Memorial Union at North Dakota State University as part of the ongoing Science, Religion and Lunch seminars.
The seminars are free, informal, open to the public and dedicated to controversial issues in science and religion.

International Day of Peace performance
FARGO – All are welcome to a celebration of the International Day of Peace at 7 tonight at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fargo-Moorhead, 121 9th St. S.
A multi-faith observance, the program will feature a performance about global unity by Kevin Locke. Locke is known throughout the world as a visionary hoop dancer, a preeminent player of the North Plains flute, a cultural ambassador and a traditional storyteller.

Meditation retreat scheduled
FARGO – “Deepening Practice: An Advanced Meditation Retreat” will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Spirit Room, 111 Broadway.
Meditation will be practiced throughout the day, and there will be yoga, periods of silence and discussion. Attendees can attend an optional dinner at Wasabi after the retreat.
The cost for the day is $35 and includes snacks. Attendees should bring a sack lunch. The dinner at Wasabi is not included in the price.

Fall day camp for children
PARK RIVER, N.D. – Park River Bible Camp invites children in grades 1-3 to Lil’ Pumpkins Day Camp on Oct. 5.
Children will participate in activities like singing, games, Bible study and crafts.
The cost is $25 per child if registered before Friday. The cost is $30 per child after.

Church fundraiser at North Buffalo Lutheran Church
MOORHEAD – North Buffalo Lutheran Church’s WELCA will host its annual fundraiser Oct. 5 at the church.
The Love Offering 2013 starts at 9:30 a.m. and will include a bake sale, a salad lunch, handmade items and guest speaker Kim Wagner.
Tickets will be available at the door for $8. Children ages 6-12 cost $3, and children under age 3 are free.
