Bohmer drops out of Moorhead City Council raceMOORHEAD – Dan Bohmer has withdrawn from this year’s City Council election.
Bohmer, formerly a 1st Ward councilman, announced in an email on Thursday that he is no longer pursuing the 3rd Ward seat this year.
Bohmer is building a home in the 3rd Ward that would have established his residency. In his statement, he said the question of his residency “has become a focus for some, which only detracts from the real issues” facing the city of Moorhead.
“It is important that our citizens focus on real issues and real solutions when voting,” he said.
Bohmer said the construction timeline for his new house at 3510 Riverview Circle, which was already behind schedule, has lagged even more in recent weeks.
In his statement, Bohmer endorsed incumbent 3rd Ward Councilwoman Brenda Elmer, whom he said has made a “substantial investment in this community through service and commitment.”
Elmer faces lone challenger Julian Dahlquist, a Minnesota DFL Party field organizer, in the Nov. 5 election.
Bohmer was a council member from the 1st Ward on the city’s north side from 2005 to 2009. He didn’t seek re-election then because of his military responsibilities. He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2011.
