Weekend watch: T.L. Solien and ‘Moby-Dick’ read

Saturday and Sunday

Fargo native T.L. Solien returns to the Plains Art Museum, 704 1st Ave. N., in a big way. The painter spent the last decade working on the epic exhibit “Toward the Setting Sun,” inspired by Herman Melville’s classic novel “Moby-Dick” and the contemporary twist “Ahab’s Wife,” by Sena Jeter Naslund.

The show opens Saturday night with a reception from 7:30 to 10:30 and music by Amanda Standalone and the Pastry Shop Girls. The event is free for members, $10 for non-members and $5 for students.

The celebration spills into Sunday with “Moby-Dick” read aloud by a number of actors, writers, teachers and other literary enthusiasts. The marathon reading starts at noon and runs until 10 p.m. Admission to the museum is free on Sunday with food and refreshments available. (701) 551-6100.
