N.D. Supreme Court justice Maring to retire
Maring says she personally delivered her letter of resignation to Gov. Jack Dalrymple on Tuesday.
Maring says it has been her "distinct pleasure" to have served on the Supreme Court. During her tenure, she authored more than 700 state Supreme Court opinions.
Former Gov. Ed Schafer appointed Maring in 1996 when she was Fargo attorney. She succeeded Beryl Levine, who retired. Maring was only the state's second woman justice.
Maring's term runs through 2018. Under state law, the person appointed to the judgeship would serve until the 2016 general election and would serve the remainder of Maring's unexpired term.
