Letter: Correct the mess with dance teamESPN comes to Fargo and North Dakota State University football – to watch the best team in the country. Wouldn’t it be nice to allow the other national champion team, the NDSU dance team, to participate? It is not too late to correct a bad decision. Note how Justin Swanson, athletic director of marketing, passed the buck in the article in the Sunday Forum, but then note how Wendy Reuer, reporter for The Forum, smoked out one of the “issues.” The dance team promoted corporate partners in NDSU venues that are in “direct conflict with major athletic partners.” I defy Swanson or anyone at NDSU to identify one athletic partner who would complain.
I further challenge Swanson to produce minutes, recordings, directives to the dance team that were ignored, including names, times, dates and places. I think the public is also entitled to know when meetings took place, who was in attendance and who they represented and what conclusions were reached.
NDSU is an outstanding university, and this whole situation is beneath them. Get the parties together, iron out the differences, spell out what is required in writing and let the Dance Team do their thing.
Two national champions, one venue – what’s better than that? Thanks to all the local media – radio, TV and print – who have been doing a great job trying to correct this situation. (I do not know and have never met anyone associated with the dance team.)
