WF schools holding Schools Alive! weekWEST FARGO – The West Fargo School District and Schools Alive! program will kick off a week of activities starting Monday.
The activities, which include a visit by an Olympic gold medalist, aim to promote physical activity in the district’s elementary schools.
- Danny Luecke, a North Dakota State University football defensive tackle, will speak at 8:15 a.m. Monday at an assembly at Harwood Elementary School.
- Bart Conner, a 1984 Olympic gymnastics gold medalist, will speak at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at an assembly at Freedom Elementary School.
- Recess Rocks Flash Mob at 8:45 a.m. Friday at Freedom Elementary.
The goal of the Schools Alive! program is to create school environments where every student gets 60 minutes of physical activity daily through physical education and other activities.
Other Schools Alive! activities include field trips, extra recess or physical education time, theme days and school-wide “brain breaks.”
The program is funded by a grant from the Dakota Medical Foundation.
Schools Alive! Was developed by Kristen M. Hetland of Concordia College and Jenny Linker of North Dakota State University.
