Rebels knock off No. 4-ranked Perham in high school football
The Rebels controlled the line of scrimmage all game en route to a 21-7 victory against Perham in Heart O’ Lakes Conference action.
D-G-F kept the Yellowjackets off the scoreboard until there were less than two minutes to play.
Both teams turned the ball over at the goal line in the first half.
Rebels running back Brandon Wayne fumbled at the 2-yard line to give up an early potential score.
Perham’s Eli Beachy passed to Tyler Glines at the 1-yard line, but Chase Schumann stepped in front of Glines at the goal line for the interception.
The remainder of the game was all Rebels. Wayne scored from 20 yards out off right tackle with 1 minute, 9 seconds to play before halftime. Wayne added a 2-point conversion run for an 8-0 lead at the break.
The Rebels defense forced a fumble from Payton Jordahl nine seconds into the second half and converted on the turnover when Chad Johnson scored the first of his two touchdowns – this one from a yard out – for a 14-0 D-G-F lead three minutes later.
Johnson iced the game in the final minute of the third quarter, scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run. Jordan Olson’s kick made the score 21-0.
Perham avoided the shutout at 1:54 when Jordahl scored on a 9-yard run.
