Namedroppers (Sept. 15)

MAKING THE GRADE: Aaron Ostlund, Moorhead, was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Bemidji (Minn.) State University.

HIGH HONORS: Erin Rustvang Sidwell, Fargo, recently completed a 10-week fellowship at the Library of Congress in Washington. Sidwell graduated from Columbia University, New York, in May. As a fellow, she worked to make a rare fine arts copyright deposit collection more accessible to researchers.

RECENT GRADS: Samantha Sorem, Horace, N.D., has graduated from Presentation College, Aberdeen, S.D., with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

AND THE WINNER IS: The following area residents were recently recognized by the Communication, Speech and Theatre Association of North Dakota:

Creative Artist Award: Betty Jean Carow, Edgley, N.D. The award recognizes an individual or group for excellence in the performing arts, including design, technical production, acting, directing or any combination of these in live theatre, television, radio or film.

Administrator of the Year: Mitch Carlson, LaMoure (N.D.) High School. The award recognizes a high school or college administrator/administration that has demonstrated recent contributions and support for communication arts, forensics, and/or theatre activities.

CTA ND Scholar of the Year: Laura Farrell, North Dakota State University. This award recognizes an individual who has had articles published in journals or papers presented at state, regional or national conventions.

Coach of the Year: Class A Speech: Eydie Wagar, Valley City, N.D.; Class B Speech, Pam Gabel, Milnor, N.D.; Class B plays, Darcy Brandenburg, Central Cass High School, Casselton.

Annise Montplaisir, a Clay County 4-H member, has earned first runner up for the 4-H Minnesota State Dan Patch Award, which recognizes youth who have participated in a horse or horseless project, in addition to activities such as horse-related leadership, public speaking and quiz bowl competitions.
