Sen. Heitkamp to hold Twitter town hall on SyriaSen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., is taking questions from North Dakotans about the conflict in Syria and the use of chemical weapons there, her office said.
It’s part of her Twitter town hall meeting. Questions may be submitted now via the social networking website Twitter.com using the hashtag #AskHeidiH, and she’ll answer them at the town hall at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, her office said.
She asks participants to name their hometowns in their questions.
Heitkamp’s Twitter handle is @SenatorHeitkamp.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government is accused of using chemical weapons against its own people. President Barack Obama has threatened military action, but members of Congress, Heitkamp among them, have voted not to give their blessings for such a venture. Some are waiting for Assad to turn over chemical weapons to international control, as Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed.
Heitkamp said she and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., are pushing a resolution that calls for all diplomatic actions to be exhausted before military force is used.
