Weekend watch: Sherman Alexie talks at MSUM

Thursday

Sherman Alexie’s 2007 young adult novel, “The Absolutely True Story of a Part-Time Indian,” may get shelved in the young adult section, but the book isn’t child’s play.

The story of a young Indian who leaves his reservation for a high school where he’s the only Indian and the surprise star of the basketball team resonated as much with adults, earning the author a National Book Award for youth literature.

Alexie reads from and discusses the book at 7 p.m. tonight at Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Hansen Theatre. The $10 tickets are available through the MSUM box office at (218) 477-2271 from noon to 4 p.m. MSUM students, faculty and staff can reserve a free ticket in person with their MSUM ID.
