Facial wipes an OK alternative

FARGO – Most days, I take my makeup off at night. Most days.

I know it’s considered a skin-care sin, but I sometimes crawl into bed without washing my face, which feels awful because by morning my skin’s even oilier than usual and I’ve got mascara flaking off into my eyes. Yuck.

It was all or nothing – either I’d carefully remove my eye makeup with a special eye makeup remover and wash my face with a special facial cleanser, or I’d ignore it completely.

I’d tried facial wipes in the past as an alternative but didn’t like the raccoon eyes and sticky residue they left behind.

A friend recently recommended Burt’s Bees version (Sensitive Facial Cleansing Towelettes with Cotton Extract). She said the fragrance-free wipes did it all and left her skin feeling clean and fresh.

“Hmm, we’ll see,” I thought.

I picked up a packet of 30 of the wipes for $5.99 at Target and tried them a few times – on a no-makeup day, on a light-makeup day and on a heavy-makeup day.

For the most part, they did the job. I had to work a little harder to rub off my eye makeup on the heavily done-up day, but eventually I was left makeup free, with only a light film.

They’re no refreshing splash of water to the face, but they’ll do on those too-tired-to-care nights, and if I had to pick a brand of those I’d tried, it’d be Burt’s Bees.
