Weather Talk: Average temp for year running below averageAlthough the summer season finished with above-average temperatures, the year overall is still running below average. The average temperature from January through August was 43 degrees, which is 2 degrees below average.
Much of that temperature deficit occurred this past spring, especially in March and April. Last April, you may recall, was the fourth-coldest on record in Fargo-Moorhead. Statewide, it was the coldest April on record for North Dakota and the third-coldest on record for the state of Minnesota.
Also, this past March and April combined ranked as the third-coldest such period on record locally, with both the state of North Dakota and Minnesota taken as a whole ranking in the top five as well.
This is all in stark contrast to 2012, when the first eight months of the year were the warmest on record, with an average temperature of 51 degrees, meaning this year has been an astounding eight degrees colder than what was recorded in 2012.
