Weather Talk: First week of September in 1999 saw steady rainsThe first week of September this year was warm and dry. After dry weather through July and August, the ground was a pattern of wide, deep cracks.
In sharp contrast to last week’s conditions, the first week of September 1999 was extraordinarily rainy. During the first four days of September that year, 5.54 inches of rain fell on Fargo-Moorhead. A moisture-laden weather system stalled over our area, dumping 2.32 inches of rain on the Sept. 1; 1.18 inches on the Sept. 2; 0.98 inch on Sept. 3; and 1.06 inches on Sept. 4.
The rain fell steadily and not as heavy downpours, so there was no flooding, just a lot of huge puddles and a modest rise on the Red River.
