Moorhead High School Hall of Honor to induct 3MOORHEAD – Three people will be inducted into the Moorhead High School Hall of Honor at a ceremony Sept. 21 at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Marion Eldridge Gillespie, a 1926 Moorhead High graduate, Ken Tangen, a longtime high school teacher and founder of the school’s Knowledge Bowl team, and Larry Knutson, known as the “voice of the Spuds” for his radio coverage of the school’s athletics for 34 years, will be recognized for their accomplishments and contributions to the school and community.
Tickets for the ceremony, which starts at 5 p.m., are $20 and must be purchased by Sept. 17.
To buy tickets, contact Dean Haugo in the high school activities office at (218) 284-2346. The school is at 2300 4th Ave. S. Those attending are asked to say if they will be there in honor of a certain inductee.
- Knutson has spent 38 years in radio as well as being a self-employed house painter. He has been the radio voice for Concordia College athletics since 1983, and regularly is a master of ceremonies for civic and school groups.
- Tangen taught English at Moorhead High for 30 years of his 50-year education career. He was Student Council adviser for 20 years. Tangen coached Knowledge Bowl for 14 years, with seven consecutive trips to national competition.
- Gillespie taught typing, shorthand and business English at Interstate Business College for 26 years and worked at Gillespie Studio. She operated Gillespie Tours as a hobby, organizing trips in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. She died in 2006 at the age of 98.
The nominations committee is now considering candidates for 2014. Nomination forms are available online at www.moorheadschools.org or at the high school.
