Young professional knows where to find the best basics

FARGO – Ian Johnson appreciates clothes that fit well and perfectly brewed coffee.

The 26-year-old marketing coordinator for Precision Dental in Fargo knows where to find the best cup of coffee in town, or anywhere in the U.S., and he’s equally as knowledgeable about buying jeans that fit just right.

I spotted Johnson at Nichole’s Fine Pastry looking effortlessly stylish in his striped T-shirt, skinny jeans and denim jacket.

Describe your style. Simple and basic. I like things that fit well.

What are you wearing today? Denim jacket and shirt from H&M, Baldwin jeans from BlackBlue in St. Paul, and my bag and boots were thrifted from Animal Traffic in Portland, Ore.

What’s your favorite thing in your closet? Jackets – I have way too many.

What inspires your style? Clothing from the James Dean-era. There’s something to be said for great fitting Levi’s and leather.

What does style mean to you? It’s an extension of your personality. I think I’m a relaxed, subdued, neutral person.

You like to travel. What are your top destinations? I’m very much a Pacific-Northwest frequenter. It’s hard to top Portland.

I also like Austin, Texas, and San Francisco. Weekend escapes to Minneapolis and Duluth, Minn., are always good, too.
