Freshman Carr named starting quarterback for MSUMMOORHEAD – The Dragons are turning to a first-year player to lead their football program.
Minnesota State Moorhead head coach Steve Laqua has named true freshman quarterback Demetrius Carr the starter for Saturday’s season opener at Augustana.
Carr and sophomore Jake Hodge were in a tight competition all fall camp to earn the starting spot. Hodge played in nine games at quarterback for MSUM last fall.
“It was an even battle all through camp, and in this last week of game preparation, (Carr) started to separate himself,” Laqua said.
The 6-foot-2, 227-pound Carr is from Naperville, Ill. He finished his high school career at Immaculate Conception Catholic in Elmhurst, Ill.
He passed for 1,062 yards and 13 touchdowns in his final prep season.
Carr credits his coaches and teammates for helping him prepare for his first college start, which is also MSUM’s Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener.
