Weekend watch: Celebrate Minnesota concertFriday
College students may not believe it, but 20 years ago the Gear Daddies and the Jayhawks were big names on the Minnesota music scene. The scene has changed, but the groups’ music still has hooks. The reunited Daddies and head ’Hawk Gary Louris top the Celebrate Minnesota concert Friday at the Imagine Amphitheater at Bluestem Center for the Arts, 801 50th Ave., S., Moorhead.
The open-air stage should play well to the country-tinged acts and make Detroit Lakes, Minn., folk rock singer Caroline Smith feel at home. Twin Cities hip-hop act Astronautilus opens the show at 7 p.m. A pre-show picnic from 4 to 7 p.m. features local music and food vendors. Tickets are $19.50 for lawn space, $26.50 for bench seats (or a special two-for-$35) or $36.50 for reserved concert bowl seats. (866) 300-8300.
