Weather Talk: Humans have developed no skill to control climateThe climate change commentary by Bruce Seelig (“Climate science debate lacks the practical view” on the Opinion page of the Aug. 16 Forum) has created a number of passionate responses, most of which, as predicted in the piece, are from people whose reasoning has been impaired by political passion.
Neither the reality nor the cause of climate change was Seelig’s point. His message was that the engine of climate is so complicated that attempts to solve the problem may well make the situation worse, not better. It is likely far more practical to invest in ways to deal with the changing climate rather than attempting to change the change.
We have shown that it is possible for humans to influence climate, but we have, so far, developed no skill in controlling it.
